Well, with crazy winter weather pummeling many parts of the US and Europe having been hit with a storm called ‘the Beast from the East’, maybe it’s time to start focusing on warm weather, sun, and sailing! I’m thinking of BELIZE!!
As Mandy and I have both lived in Belize, we know this beautiful country! We’re putting together stories and travel tips from our time living in this fabulous Caribbean nation.
With the second largest Barrier Reef in the world and crystal-clear waters, Belize is beckoning you to come and explore. As a charter captain, I’ve sailed to many of the places you will want to visit. So where? Here are some fabulous island destinations- most of which are accessed by boat only.
Caye Caulker: Located in the northern part of the country and situated just on the reef, Caye Caulker offers fabulous snorkeling and diving. The famous Hol Chan Marine Reserve is a quick trip to see the amazing marine life and then head back to this relaxed island for cold Belikins.
Tobacco Caye: Off of Dangriga, Tobacco Caye sits just on the reef. Great snorkeling and fishing in this area! It’s a tiny, tiny, friendly caye with only around 25 full time residents- and a great bar to greet you as you come up the dock.
South Water Caye: East of Dangria and situated within the largest Marine Reserve in Belize, South Water Caye is just on the reef and known for great beaches, snorkeling, diving, and paddling. A beautiful spot to anchor and explore.
Caribow Caye: Just a skip across the water from South Water Caye lies Caribow Caye. The Smithsonian houses a permanent research station here for studying the reef and joining ecosystems. The amazing snorkeling in crystal clear water is not to be missed!
Ranguana Caye: This little private caye lies 20 miles west of Placencia just off the barrier reef. A beautiful, calm spot for snorkeling and fishing- or a relaxing day on the beach.
These are just a few of many of our favorite charter adventures! Are you ready to start exploring?? THINK BELIZE!!
