Captain David was born and raised in Durban, South Africa, where he was introduced to sailing before emigrating to the US in his teens. He holds a USCG Captains 50 Ton Certification. He has taught numerous troops of scouts sailing, the ways of the sea and life aboard a ship. He is also an abstract expressionist artist (www.davidmilton.com) whose vibrant, joyful work can be seen on Ubuntus colorful mast as well as in galleries in the Caribbean and U.S. His calm, relaxed disposition will help you feel at home during your time aboard.
First Mate Lori dreamt of cruising since taking a sailing trip to the Bahamas in her teens. Nomadic by nature, she has lived in Iceland, France, and across the U.S. and inspired her family to take to the sea. Her well-established graphic design and editing firm has given the family the flexibility to travel extensively. An avid learner, she speaks several languages and brings a passion for learning on board - from sea creatures' traits to environmental awareness to cuisine. Her easygoing enthusiasm is directed toward making your charter unforgettable.
Scrumptious healthy food has always been an important part of Davids and Loris lives (and is reflected by their eldest, now an executive chef in DC). They both love creating international culinary dishes, and use the freshest local ingredients available to delight the palate. They happily accommodate special dietary requests in creative ways.
Med Term pricing is cost (cost of the boat) + VAT (country tax) + APA (operating and provisioning expenses). The cost is the weekly rate for the charter. The VAT and APA are calculated on the cost of the boat and paid in addition to that base price. The APA covers: fuel, water, food, licenses, alcohol, and any specific items you would like provided to you. APA money that is not used for provisioning would be reimbursed to you- or, if you spend over the amount, they would charge you. The Captain keeps track of expenses and would let you know if you’re reaching your APA limit. This is the industry standard for the region.
Caribbean Terms or Caribbean Inclusions refer to all-inclusive rates. These boats are typically catamarans and monohulls and are found in the Caribbean.
Most (but not all) motor-yachts and sailing vessels in the Med are Med Rate terms.
The yachts featured on our website will specifically state which type of pricing they offer.
