Mike always had a love for water sports. While studying in Cape Town his interest in sailboats evolved. After finishing his degree, Mike began his yachting career as Deckhand on a 45 day passage from Cape Town to St Maarten. This experience had him hooked and he proceeded to work on different boats around the world. After obtaining his RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (for both motor and sail boats), he skippered 2 boats simultaneously in the Med. Sailing boats and the adventures that ensue is what drives Mike's passion for the ocean. He holds RYA Yachtmaster Ocean and AEC Engineering Certification.
Stephanie is a Canadian-born adventurer, having lived aboard boats for years and letting the wind bring her from jazz shows in NYC to whale watching in Cape Cod, from the sandy San Blas islands of Panama to colourful Colombia, from dancing in Cuba to snorkeling with rays in the Cayman Islands, and eventually to the Bahamas out-islands where she resided for two years. She believes traveling by sail allows one to experience places in a unique and intimate way.
After working for over a decade in the hospitality and yachting industry, her love of cooking and the ocean led her to Sayang. She believes that fresh local ingredients are key, and knows how to make them shine in her dishes. When not working in the galley, you can find her kitesurfing, chatting to animals or doing yoga.
Whether you're interested in sailing, diving, snorkelling, fishing, hiking, discovering uninhabited islands, or just simply relaxing in one of the most scenic tropical destinations in the world, Mike and Stephanie will tailor an experience to your desires. Stephanie and Mike look forward to having you aboard Sayang and showing you the best that the Caribbean has to offer.
