Captain
Daud McLean Alfredo Banea
Nation: Indonesian
Captain: Daud McLean Alfredo Banea
Language: English, indonesian
He has worked for several LoBs before joining Manta Mae in September
2018. He is a gentle Captain that works hard and quickly earned respect
from other longer serving crew. He is originally from Jakarta and has been
working on boats since 1999.

Cruise Manager: Ben
He originally from Yorkshire England has lived in Indonesia for 21
years, he has been diving for 33yrs, is a BSAC, PADI & SSI Instructor.
Ben has done about 5.400 dives and taught 640+ dive courses and 67
local Indonesians. Ben has worked on LoBs in Raja Ampat for 9 years
and Komodo/Banda Sea for 3 years. He is married to a Java lady and
speaks fluent Indonesian language.

Chef: Iwan
He is from Sangir Island, North Sulawesi. He has worked on several
LoBs and before joing Manta Mae he was cooking in the Swissbell
Manado. He prepare delicious variable food and always is on time,
also satisfied the palate of our Italian owner, a real challenge !

Chief Officer: Selfius
He is originally from Bitung Island but now lives in Sorong. He is a great
worker and will do what ever i ask and rarely needs reminding, he organises
and works very well with Manta Mae crew. Selfius is a real asset to Manta
Mae. Before joining us he worked on a budget LoB in Raja Ampat for
several years.

First Engineer: Marlon
He is from Makassar but was born in Toraja in central Sulawesi. He has been working
as a mechanic for the past 18yr. He is very knowledgeable and a great asset to
Manta Mae as he will work all hours of the day with no complaints and always
with smile.

Second Engineer and Dinghy: Anton
He is a real asset to Manta Mae as he not only can the speed boat and Manta Mae but he is
also a wizard with electrics and a very good assistant mechanic. He is originally from Java
but was born and lives in Sorong.

Assistant mechanic: Yasser
He has worked 12yr on boats, although most of his experiencehas
been on tankers he used to work on one of the most prestigious
LoBs in Indonesia. Like Marlon, Yasser is originally from Toraja in
Central Sulawesi, he makes the perfect assistant to Marlon as he
too likes to work hard.

Waiter and house keeping: Firman
He is the hardest worker i have ever met, he constantly is making Manta
Mae look neat and tidy, always ready for whatever the guest ask for tea,
coffee, beer etc. Firman looks for work and is more happy to work than sit
and play with his phone. Of all the crew onboard Manta Mae it is Firman that
shines above all and like other crew is a real asset to Manta Mae.
A wonderful experience!
A wonderful trip with an amazing crew. Having been redirected from our original itinerary due to bad weather condition, the cruise manager and the whole team tried their best to make this trip really special for us. Dives were well planned and briefed with a delicate drawing each time (credit to Ben). Entry point of each dive was carefully selected to make sure we didn't mess up with current and had the best chance to see the desired marine life. Divemaster is local and had good knowledge of the water, with a pretty sharp eye. They always tried to keep an eye on us throughout the dive and managed to follow our pace, help us hook in crazy current, which is very important for underwater photographer, we felt a certain degree of freedom without worrying too much about safety. The dive team knew I had special interest in mangrove so they drived the speedboat to search a large area around Aljui Bay and eventually found a good one for me, the dive at the mangrove turned out to be my best dive in this trip, and very likely we were the first visitors there, so cruise manager name the site after my name😜 . A few times I had to reach some of the most remote beaches along the trip in order to get the best takeoff point for my drone, they all made it possible for me. Throughout the whole trip we never found ourselves short of food, all very tasty, and no identical dishes in seven days! Juice and dessert were always ready after each dive. We even tried to harvest some very juicy coconuts from a remote island which is quite fun. The chef is very knowledgeable and had some good chat with us. The room boy was the most helpful and hardworking guy in this trip, not only did his duty (which is quite a lot of works) but tried to keep an eye on everthing. Everytime when I couldn't find my port cover, screw or charger etc he just showed me where they were, magical! Overall, it was my second visit to north Raja Ampat, and never in a moment I found it boring or repetitive, we explored new regions, finding new creatures, and most importantly, making new friends. See the video I make for this trip if you are interested in Mantamae and Raja Ampat: 2) I was on board of Mantamae with a group of friends, only girls we decided to have a nice charter just for us! Really, really good experience! We visited Komodo and we are planning our next Charter in Forgotten Islands Crew is extremely friendly, precise and ready for any request! We were a group with different diving levels, but the two Dive Master, tailor-made the dives dividing us in 2 small group of 3 people each. The experience was spectacular under and above the water. Some of us we were vegetarians and vegans and the cousine were ready for all our different requests! Thoroughly recommended! 2)Me and my friend hat the pleasure to take the 8D/7N Raja Ampat cruise with Mantamae Great trip, great diving experience diving with mantas that we met more than one time! The crew is professional and friendly, run by Ben as the cruise director. They have well organised and diving groups were small to 3-4 divers for every Dive Master. Dive briefing always accurate and precise, you can understand that Ben is an expert from the area. We met wobbegong sharks, pygmy seahorses, mantas, sharks and incredible corals. Another star for the food, different every day, healthy, fresh, tasteful and well presented. Juices and dessert always there after each dive. Definitely an unforgettable experience! 3) The crew, the chef, the cruise director...everything was just perfect! Thanks for a great experience! Terima kasih banyak semuanya, kami cinta all of you !!! 4) In February me and my girlfriend had the pleasure to visit North of Raja Ampat on board Mantamae! A romantic vessel. Our room was the Master Cabin, beautiful decorated and with lot of space , you have a sort of longe inside the room. Quality of the food amazing, also for my GF that is vegetarian. When you travel is difficult to don’t get bored but on Mantamae the chef has lot of fantasy and proposed her different dishes everday. We did dives in remote places, just us in some of them! We strongly Mantamae and hope to be able to join soon another trip with them in Komodo! 5) Fantastic... A real dream... This boat is a real indo adventure in the most amazing places of the planet… 6) Just returned from a 10 day, eye opening charter to Komodo on mantamae. Fantastic boat, lovely crew, delicious food and awesome diving. Highly recommended! 7) What a great project for a great adventure! Must do. Che grande progetto per una grande avventura! Si deve fare. 8) The most fantastic experience !!! Go Go Go!!!🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 9) Spectacular ... look at the pictures, words are utterly superfluous. !! Espectacular...mirar las fotos, las palabras sobran….!! 10) Is very nice place to be there for the holidays and have fun 11) Nice place for someone special. I love it. 12) " I have just finished trip in Komodo with my divers group and booked the boat for 2 more trips straight away! Fantastic boat for small groups. The crew works like a clock, captain and boat manager fulfilled every single our wish. Food and dive guides- very good! Very flexible and easy going, relaxed atmosphere among the crew meaning they are happy working on this boat. Very important when you are in small, isolated space. Overall 5*! " [ Vasic Milos] 13) “Our exclusive Manta Mae trip around Raja Ampat was fantastic, both above water and below. The diving was spectacular – Manta Mae's dive equipment was top-notch, and snorkelling was equally mind-blowing, with the extraordinary colours and marine life of untouched coral reefs. We explored uninhabited islands, walked barefoot along pristine beaches of bleached white sand, saw hundreds of flying foxes and heard the elusive Bird of Paradise. Gliding into Wayag at dawn and then exploring the atolls hidden within towering limestone rocks was a truly life-enhancing experience. At the end of each fascinating day, we tucking into freshly caught fish prepared by the on-board cook and enjoying convivial conversation around the dining table under a canopy of stars before retiring to our supremely comfortable bed, ready to awaken to another amazing adventure.” [ Tony Van Den Hout (Holland) ] 14) “We've had the pleasure of two voyages on the iconic Phinisi Manta Mae. In both cases we joined the boat on Sorong (West Papua). In one trip we explored the extraordinary land and dived the still pristine waters of world famous Raja Ampat. Our second and longer trip took us from Sorong to the Bandas, the fabled Spice Islands, and onto Ambon and disembarking on the southern tip of Sulawesi. We thoroughly enjoyed both voyages and were extremely comfortable, well looked after and well fed. A big thank you to Manta Mae and her crew and we look forward to another wonderful adventure aboard.” [ Philip Bigio (UK) ] 15) “Great way to technology detox! Good crew and company - Good itinerary / amazing scenery - Great diving - Good food” [ Andre S (Australia) ] 16) “Excellent. We liked the fact that the boat had few passengers We liked the cook´s skills, the food was tasty. The crew were friendly and helpful. The master diving guide was friendly too. He was willing to talk and entertain us. He was knowledgable about the geography and history of the places we visited. He had a good sense of humor too.” [ Virginia M ( Argentina) ] 17) "Just dive in and forget the world above dive sites like Castle Rock, Chrystal Rock. I will never forget diving at Shotgun. On the penultimate day we still saw mantas directly above us. Roy has been very hard to find our wishes (on animals / creatures) Jace has given me many a good tip when taking pictures. The whole crew has the feeling of being at home. Interesting was also the excursion to the kites and in the evening the bats when changing the islands at the sunset to see. " [Claudia S (Germany)] 18) “We've had the pleasure of two voyages on the iconic Phinisi Manta Mae. In both cases we joined the boat on Sorong (West Papua).
