Impeccable service and generosity are what best describes our crew, who endeavor to go above & beyond our guests’ wishes. Their knowledge of the coast, experience on the water and incredible personalities are great assets of the journey aboard Pacific Yellowfin. However, though always keen on sharing travel anecdotes or out of the ordinary happenings, they know when to vanish and let guests relax, enjoy themselves and make the most of these magnificent landscapes.

Colin Griffinson
CAPTAIN
Birthplace: Dublin, Ireland

Our resident storyteller and charismatic Captain holds a deep affection for wooden vessels, the open ocean, and the unique experiences he has come to be privy to when immersing himself in a combination of the two. An explorer at heart, with over five decades of sailing expertise, he’s available to impart seafaring wisdom, share insightful stories, and instigate a laugh or two from adults and children alike.

Desolation Sound - August 2023
"It was an amazing experience. The crew was great, and the captain is a really unique, kind, and knowledgable human being. He’s been sailing around that area for 40 years, and the boat is special. Despite being built in 1943 for WWII, they spend a ton of effort maintaining and restoring the vessel, even down to searching for made-in-the-USA bolts and period-appropriate fixtures. They have hosted everyone from IMAX crews to an episode of the Bachelorette (yes really). I’d happily recommend the Yellowfin to anyone looking for a bit of “unscripted adventure” as they call it."
July 2022, then booked September 2023
Note: This USA 3-generation family came in July 2022 for 7 nights in Desolation Sound and booked 5 nights in September 2023 in the Great Bear Rainforest. Comments: “The little kids did great. The chef was a wonderful person, and his food was delicious. The crew were so friendly and nice. We love the Captain and all the stories. Many fun hiking adventures up to lakes. The slide was a blast for the kids. Whale experiences!!!!!. Clam digging, oyster gathering, fishing. etc. etc. etc.!”
Family Charter
The trip was a total success. Things could not have been much better with the Yellowfin. Her accommodations and her crew were just as I had hoped if not a bit better. The food was very good and the chef was flexible enough to satisfy everyone. Colin and the crew ensured that we never wanted for any activity. Their intimate knowledge of the area is priceless as is their unending patience with the kids. We have chartered several times in the past and can say without doubt that Colin and his crew are the best ever.

"This trip ranked up near or at the top of the trips we have taken with our family. The crew was incredible displaying a genuine interest in making sure every detail was addressed and that everyone had a ball. Colin has assembled a very eclectic group of amenities on Pacific Yellowfin which I dont think could be easily replicated elsewhere. I believe that the itinerary covered some of the most beautiful places on earth. Our family was exposed to activities that we had not previously experienced. From motor biking on the islands to the 40 foot waterslide to gathering our own oysters the verdict by my family and friends was unanimous! Guilty of having too much fun! Thanks so much for referring us to Colin! We highly recommend this trip to anyone!"
A tremendous experience.
A tremendous experience. Beautiful scenery, excellent accommodations, superior captain and crew, and delicious food. This trip was a wonderful adventure for us.
Fabulous!
Thanks, thanks, thanks. I am so happy I had the chance to discover this beautiful area. I think words are not enough to describe the breathtaking scenery. The trip was fabulous and so perfect. Life on board is peaceful. The Pacific Yellowfin is an interesting yacht, extremely comfortable and stable. She is maintained in an amazing condition by her wonderful crew! Captain Colin is a very nice and attentive man, and lover of his beautiful area.
Rave review
Dear Colin, I just spoke with the family about their summer charter. They said everything was fantastic, and particularly noted that this was the best culinary week of their lives (and that is saying a great deal, as they are very well traveled). Mr. H spent half an hour on the phone recommending PACIFIC YELLOWFIN to the next clients! Thanks again for your superb program.
Great Bear Rainforest
“All of the crew were top rate. Captain Colin, Kellie the chef was over the top, Courtney was incredible, Callie was a lot of fun (and we shared lots of photo tips), Scotty had some connections we know very well including a neighbor. And Jarrot was a retired professional player.   Here is a share on a bit of our experience – it is hard as much of it was about being there, the before during and after of the moment – not just the “seeing”. Still I hope this helps tell the story.   By the way this all happened on one day….   Our experience included walking up a river in the rainforest and just taking in the air, the richness of fauna, watching the pools of salmon. Seeing a glimpse of the Spirit bear (nicknamed Strawberry by Maurice and Jolene our guides)  and then watching “Strawberry” come down and eat. It was a good amount of time (actually I have no idea how long we were there – it could have been 20 minutes or an hour) before another black bear came down and then moved her off the buffet table. Then we sat and watched the other bear fishing until he had his fill and wandered off to sleep. The decision to return to the boat was made when we figured it did not get much better than what we had experienced – and of course it did as we found Strawberry waiting to wish us goodbye. The bear is a Black Bear with a light hair colored gene and is also known as a Spirit Bear or Kermode!   The humpbacks were all around us as we plied the waters – the explosion of their breath a sure way to spot them, a sound that somehow was at peace with the surrounding fjords. The arced backs a foretelling of the next dive with tales held high in the air. Later we followed the birds to witness a social gathering as the humpbacks worked as a community to corral the herring – lunging and bubble feeding. The gulls feeding on a herring ball close to our stern until the waters boiled and the humpbacks took their share 20 feet from our craft. Finally on the second to last day – we shut the engines down and just drifted – watching a pair swimming – and playing, and then we became the object of their curiosity – as they saw within feet of the vessel – finally stopping and just looking at us – completely still, wondering as much about us as them. Susan knew what they were saying – just keep doing what you can to keep us all safe on this planet.   Hopefully this will give you a sense of what we experienced – but it goes much deeper – I don’t think I will ever let go of those moments." - USA CLIENTS
