RUM RUNNER
Rum Runner Yacht Charter | Electric Catamaran in the Virgin Islands
Step aboard Rum Runner, a next-generation Island Spirit 525E created for quieter, more sustainable cruising through the Virgin Islands. This innovative 52-foot catamaran accommodates up to eight guests in four queen cabins and is operated by a dedicated captain and chef/first mate.
Combining electric propulsion, extensive battery storage, solar generation, and a backup diesel generator, Rum Runner offers a forward-looking charter experience without sacrificing comfort, space, or adventure.
Spacious Contemporary Living
Rum Runner is designed around open, connected living spaces where guests can gather comfortably throughout the day. The expansive salon provides a welcoming setting for conversation, games, and indoor relaxation, while large exterior areas make the surrounding scenery part of the experience.
Guests can share alfresco meals in the cockpit, relax on the forward deck, or head to the flybridge for panoramic views. From morning coffee to sunset cocktails, the yacht offers multiple settings for spending time together or finding a quiet corner.
Full air conditioning is available throughout the yacht, including overnight.
Accommodations for Eight Guests
Rum Runner welcomes eight guests in four queen cabins, including a spacious owner’s suite. Each stateroom has its own private ensuite head, providing comfort and privacy for families, couples, and groups of friends.
Cabin Configuration
1 Owner’s suite with queen bed
3 Queen guest cabins
4 Private ensuite heads
Full air conditioning
The cabins are designed with contemporary finishes, useful storage, and a calm atmosphere for unwinding after each day’s activities.
Electric Cruising Innovation
Rum Runner’s propulsion system features two 65-kilowatt electric motors, each producing the equivalent of approximately 88 horsepower. A substantial battery bank and five-kilowatt solar array support quiet, emission-free operation when cruising under electric power.
A 55-kilowatt diesel generator provides backup charging and extended-range capability when required. This hybrid arrangement allows guests to experience periods of near-silent cruising while maintaining the flexibility needed for a reliable crewed charter.
The reduced engine noise is particularly enjoyable when leaving an anchorage, moving through calm waters, or relaxing on deck while underway.
Outdoor Living
The flybridge is one of Rum Runner’s signature gathering spaces, combining elevated views with comfortable seating for the charter party. Below, the cockpit provides room for outdoor dining, while the forward deck offers another inviting location for sunbathing, stretching, or enjoying the breeze.
A bimini supplies shade when desired, and the swim area provides convenient access to the water and tender. A barbecue adds variety to the crew’s onboard dining options.
Private Crew and Customized Dining
A dedicated captain and chef/first mate oversee navigation, meals, and daily service. The crew can personalize the charter around each group’s preferred balance of relaxation, exploration, and water activities.
Menus are fully customizable, and the ship’s bar can be provisioned around guest preferences. A full-sized refrigerator, ice maker, and coffee and espresso equipment support everything from relaxed breakfasts to evening cocktails and chef-prepared dinners.
Water Toys and Activities
Rum Runner carries a selection of water toys for active adventures and relaxing afternoons at anchor.
Water toys include:
Sea scooters
Stand-up paddleboards
Wakeboard
ZUP board
Towable tube
Floating dock
Snorkeling equipment
Fishing gear
Dinghy for shore excursions and water activities
Guests can explore beneath the surface, paddle along protected coastlines, enjoy tow sports, or relax together on the floating dock.
Rendezvous Scuba Diving
Scuba diving may be arranged through an independent local dive operator. Equipment, certification requirements, transportation, availability, and additional costs should be confirmed before the charter.
Entertainment and Onboard Comfort
Rum Runner offers a salon sound system, board games, books, an ice maker, hair dryers, and shaded exterior areas. These amenities provide easy entertainment and familiar comforts between island adventures.
Sustainable Charter Experience
Rum Runner’s electric propulsion, battery storage, and solar array are designed to reduce fuel use, engine noise, and emissions. Although the yacht retains a diesel generator for backup power and extended range, her technology makes quieter electric cruising possible whenever operating conditions and available battery capacity permit.
This approach offers guests a more peaceful way to experience the Virgin Islands while reducing the yacht’s environmental impact.
Charter Policies
Smoking is permitted only on the yacht’s aft transom or sugar scoops.
Crew gratuity is separate from the charter fee and remains at the charterer’s discretion.
All itineraries and water activities are subject to weather, local regulations, equipment availability, and the captain’s discretion.
Reserve Rum Runner
Rum Runner brings together spacious accommodations, personalized service, electric propulsion, and an engaging collection of water toys. For guests seeking a modern Virgin Islands charter with quieter cruising and a more sustainable approach, she offers a genuinely distinctive experience.

Meet the Rum Runner crew for the 2026-27 charter season.
CAPTAIN CHARLIE MACDONALD
Charlie started sailing at the age of ten and grew up in a family of sailors. By the time she finished school, she already knew she wanted to work on the water.
Charlie holds a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore, which she completed in the south of the UK, alongside other qualifications like AEC1&2. Most recently, Charlie and Cody worked aboard a charter catamaran in Belize. Being based in Central America made it easy to explore nearby countries, including completing her Divemaster in Mexico before returning to dive on the Belize barrier reef.
When back home, Charlie volunteers as a dinghy sailing instructor, working with teenagers to help them discover sailing. She is always keen to try new water-based sports.
Charlie has a real enthusiasm for hospitality and everything that comes with creating a great guest experience. She loves making cocktails, getting to know guests, and making sure everyone feels relaxed, looked after, and part of the adventure. For her, the perfect charter is a balance of safe, professional sailing and plenty of fun, exploring beautiful destinations and finding the best spots to swim and snorkel.
She has worked and travelled throughout the Mediterranean and Caribbean and thrives in the lifestyle that comes with moving between different islands and countries. For her yachting is good food, new places, great company, and the opportunity to live on the water.
CHEF CODY COX
Born and raised in Kenya, Cody spent much of her life living in the outdoors. She started sailing at a young age with her family, exploring the East African coast until the ocean became her second home.
Growing up in a big family with a mother and a sister cooking professionally and plenty of garden space, food was central to the family rhythm. Cooking and eating home-grown produce was the start of her culinary adventure.
Fast-forward to a university summer, when Cody decided to work on boats in Croatia as a host. It was here that she discovered a love for creating delicious Mediterranean food on board. She had so much fun that she returned the following summer, and it was then that she decided to put her corporate career search on hold and make the leap across to the Caribbean.
She spent a full year working aboard catamarans in Belize, where she completed her Divemaster qualifications while developing Caribbean-inspired menus. Since then, she has also completed her Yachtmaster Offshore qualification, allowing her to be as useful and versatile as possible to her fellow crew members.
Vivacious, adventurous, and full of passion, Cody has a deep love for the ocean, the people who call it home, and the environment that sustains it. Her cooking reflects that same spirit - fresh, vibrant, and inspired by the places and cultures she has encountered along the way.
