CAPTAIN: Gino Barale
CHEF/FIRST MATE: Nikita Du Preez
Gino grew up in the bush, travelling across Southern Africa with his parents. Any chance they got they were out camping in remote locations, which is where his great sense of adventure came about. Gino was introduced to sailing through his father, which is where he began to compete in multiple races, working his way up from crew to skippering his own boat.
After 3 years of racing keelboats, Gino found himself in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean enroute to Rio De Janeiro competing in the Cape 2 Rio Ocean race. This ended up being a 3-month journey, sailing from island to island in Brazil once they got there before starting the passage back home to Cape Town, South Africa.
Nikita found her love for cooking at a young age in the kitchen with her dad where he taught her all the tips and tricks to cooking a delicious meal. With time, this slowly ended up becoming weekly competitions in the house in who created the better dish.
Nikita decided from the get-go she would not be spending her life in an office but rather exploring the world. After discovering the beauty of sailing and life on the water, Nikita quickly booked her course to become a stewardess and culinary courses to increase her culinary skills, which led her to working as a sole chef/stew in Cape Town, South Africa on a super yacht. This is where both her passion for the sea and cooking aligned and she knew her career choice was right.
Gino and Nikita, being friends since high school and having created endless adventures, memories, and stories together, decided to join forces and run sailing charters out of Cape Town. Realizing how well they work together they made their way to the Virgin Islands 2 years ago for another adventure together.
They are so special that nothing will explain how nice they are.

We spent eight unforgettable days aboard Changes in Latitude, and from start to finish, Gino and Kita made the experience relaxed, fun, safe, and truly special. Gino was an outstanding captain: knowledgeable, calm, flexible, and always focused on making sure we had the best possible trip.
Kita was equally incredible, creating delicious meals that somehow got better every day and making everything feel warm and welcoming. Together, they were the perfect team — professional, personable, and attentive without ever making the trip feel over-planned.
We left with great memories, full hearts, and full stomachs, and we would absolutely recommend Gino, Kita, and Changes in Latitude to anyone looking for a fantastic catamaran cruise in the BVI.
Changes in Latitudes was the nicest charter boat we have ever sailed on. I particularly, love the seating area in the bow. Many seating options so that people can choose their own space or be together.
Gino and Nikita are the best crew we have ever had. They literally hit it out of the park! We had many planned activities, land spots to explore and snorkeling stops. Nikita’s meals were literally Michelin worthy! We felt we were dining in a fine restaurant. She is an incredible chef. The way she put foods together for both flavor and presentation was outstanding.
Gino and Nikita are genuinely good people. They were both wonderful to my granddaughter, Elsie. Elsie celebrated her 7th birthday on the boat. The birthday day started at breakfast with decorations and a birthday tiara. The taxi driver blared a happy birthday song through his sound system. We went to The a pirate show at Leverick bay. Elsie won the conch blowing contest for her age group. The pirate and the audience sang Happy Birthday Elsie. And then back to the boat for a birthday dinner with cake. No ordinary cake, but a cake with whipped cream frosting and filling with lots of strawberries!
You guys made our family vacation the best ever. You both went above and beyond in everything you do!
A special thank you for being so kind to Elsie, having her sail the boat & playing chess.
Nikita, the food was like a Michelin 5 star restaurant, you are a fantastic cook!
Gino and Nikita your attention to detail was outstanding.
Thanks,
Lauren, Dan, Ava & Elsie
Thank you for such a wonderful week! You gave us new experiences that we will never forget! This is charter #7 for us and you are raising the bar!
Food was FABULOUS and drinks were perfect!
We all loved the Sunchill & the scooters. The Bubbles was so cool and one of our favorite new experiences!
Best wishes for a continued wonderful season!

What a fantastic trip for us! Thank you for making sure we always had what we needed or wanted. You both are very professional. We enjoyed Kita’s fabulous meals that clearly were well thought out and beautifully presented! I know we will talk about this trip for years to come & be so thankful for this trip.
Thank you again for making our catamaran trip such a memorable one! We appreciate all your time & efforts!
May God bless you

You are magic.
Every detail is carefully planned before we even know there is a detail to consider. Your professional connection is like no other. Your personal connection creates a warm, family-like atmosphere. Your maturity in all situations is amazing. We will certainly not “gate-keep” about your boat, company, and you two amazing young people, even though we would love to keep you our secret.
Thank you for the most amazing week. Doing the same trip one year after our first amazing charter was risky because our group of 8 enjoyed last year so much. You two kicked it up 10 notches. We appreciate your hard work & hospitality forever!

However, it’s the SERVICE that separates this trip from our previous trip - which was also great as well! Gino & Kita are an incredible team. Never felt unsafe wherever we went and ate as if we were in a fine dining restaurant.
Gino/Kita, may the BVI breezes always be soft and on your back!

Gino and Nikita are first class hosts!!! The food, the service, and the hospitality are beyond what I could have expected! This was a vacation dreams are made of!! We will definitely be back!! I highly recommend this crew!
Tullie R.
Fabulous food, beautiful boat and the crew took care of every need we had.
We had a family of 6- they did themed nights, found great coves for snorkeling, we did a lot of fishing and even finished the charter with crew given awards.
5 ⭐️ experience!

Gino made the experience so amazing with his fantastic attitude and optimism. He made such a great effort to make our experience first class and one of a kind, taking us to the most beautiful islands, coves, and beaches during our trip.
I’m leaving this trip gaining so many amazing memories and two new friends! Thank you so much Gino and Nikita! We love you guys!
Nicolas C
They are highly skilled in cooking and captaining and take care of their guests with pleasure and a positive attitude! Nikita went to great lengths all week to make sure our whole group was happy with our complex dietary restrictions and Gino did the same to make sure we were comfortable with the route. His sailing skills made us all feel at ease navigating us through the islands and taking us to all the beautiful spots! They are both an absolute joy to spend a week with! Thank you Nikita for the incredible FROM SCRATCH birthday cake for my mom!!!

To be honest, it wasn’t the boat.. it was all Gino and Nikita that made this trip special.
From Gino taking us to some breathtaking places and showing us reefs and islands, to Nikita’s stunning talent in the galley. I have truly never had better food prepared on a trip. Nikita’s talent is second to none, and I have traveled the world.
We WILL BE BACK!
Keeley B.
You delivered so much more.
Your grace and hospitality is top notch and you made us easily comfortable on our floating home for the week. And it felt like we all became a family which was the best part!
Captain Gino - we were all impressed with your maturity and master seamanship.
First Mate/Chef Nikita - what a chef and mixologist!!! You kept us well fed and full of rum, every meal a delight indeed.
You Two - are quite a pair and it was lovely to see how well you communicate with each other and work as a team. Well Done!!
Today is our last morning, last sunrise, last snorkel, last delish breakfast.... and we are so full of great memories that will last a lifetime.
Thank you for all that you did to make this week so so special.... Perfect!
Ben, Beth, Emma, Zoe, Andrew, and Ryan
Gino, you really impressed us with your skills and knowledge despite your age.
Nikita, I assumes the meals would be tasty, but they were delicious!! And so beautifully presented!
You both have such sweet spirits and you made our little last-minute getaway truly special

Perfect!

Gino, you really impressed us with your skills and knowledge despite your age.
