Captain Jim:
Captain Jim was born in Maine and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, before he enlisted in the US Coast Guard for 4 years. Even in the midst of dangerous waters, Jim developed a love of the ocean as he performed rescues on a 44’ Motor Lifeboat while stationed at Cape Hatteras, and Oregon Inlet, North Carolina. After his time with the Coast Guard, Jim spent a year working aboard a tug boat in the North Atlantic.

Next, Jim attended Penn State and received a BS in Landscape Architecture, the field in which he has practiced ever since. Using his design background and experience, Jim designed and built the home that he, his wife, and their sons, have enjoyed for 20 years. Engaged in his community, Jim was the Cubmaster of his sons’ Scout Pack (is there a place in heaven for Cubmasters?). Jim & Judy are very proud of their sons, Henri & Will, who are now both Eagle Scouts and are attending the College of William & Mary.

When deciding to begin the next chapter of their lives on the Dauntless, the designer in Jim was drawn to the clean lines and craftsmanship of the Jeanneau fleet, which truly marry form & function. She is beautiful, comfortable and rides smooth & steady. As a licensed Captain, First Aid & CPR certified, Jim has returned to the oceans (this time warmer & clearer water!) and he can’t wait to share his yacht, the beautiful water and islands and his enthusiasm with you!

Chef Judy:
Born in NY, NY, Judy learned to sail as a teenager at Girl Scout Camp Tekakwitha in Hampton Bays, Long Island. Island life was not tropical, but there was plenty of water and the wind was good!
She met Jim at Penn State, where she also received a BS in Landscape Architecture. With over 30 years of designing on the land with her clients at their homes, Judy is ready to invite you to her new home in the Caribbean. ASA certified in 101, 103 and 104 and certified with Red Cross, Judy is Chef and First Mate on the Dauntless. Welcome aboard!

What started as food journey to improve her health has become a passion for making great food. The Italian in her loves to share it with others. After conventional medicine failed her, Judy turned to a wholistic approach to full body well-being, with Real Food being the key. Whole food is not only healthy, it is DELICIOUS! As the Chef onboard the Dauntless, Judy is always searching for fresh produce and meeting local farmers to get the best possible ingredients. She is very able to work with the local Caribbean markets to provide fresh, tasty ingredients to create one-of-a-kind, satisfying dishes for her guests. How fun to enjoy the local fare in the comfort of your own private yacht, surrounded by crystal clear water and your favorite cocktail in-hand!

We can’t wait for you to come and enjoy our yacht with us!

September 2017
What a great time! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the Dauntless. We were served fabulous food all week- creative and elegant, and a couple of nights were directed to some great restaurants in Annapolis. Judy and Jim were great hosts- a lot of fun and engaging, but also gave us time to just enjoy our private time. I haven’t been on such a relaxing (and invigorating- as we sailed around the Chesapeake- quite exciting too!) vacation in a long time. It was: kick back and enjoy from the minute we stepped on and stowed our bags neatly in our little cabin. Everything was clean and tidy, leaving plenty of room to move around freely. Thanks Nancy S.

We booked a cruise in the Chesapeake Bay with Sail Dauntless! We explored Annapolis and St. Michael - amazing 18th century seaport towns with quaint shops and bistros. The sail across the bay was smooth and stable, even with a strong wind that day. The on-board amenities were fabulous. We had a large stateroom with a private head. Showers were nice and hot! Snacks and beverages were healthy and delicious, served al fresco or in the large dining area. We enjoyed being underway just as much. Nothing beats a sunny day out on the bay, or enjoying a glass of wine overlooking starlit seas at night. We are already booking our next trip to the Caribbean and can't wait to go back! Mary P
Date Night
We had a date night at the dock, and it was GREAT! Judy and Jim made us feel special and well accommodated. They took us out on a little ride on the Chesapeake, then cooked us a yummy dinner. The room we slept in rocked! A very enjoyable little sojorn- I definitely recommend them.
January 2018
We were so thrilled to enjoy a night on Dauntless before they headed south. It was a great experience. We relaxed aboard watching the sunset while enjoying great wine and food served by our attentive and welcoming hosts. We slept well and were surprised at the comfortable shipboard facilities having never experienced this style of weekend away. We plan to one day fly south and join them in any of their ports of call in warmer climes. Eugine E., January 18th:

Jim & Judy, Was a pleasure to sail on your well appointed boat this past week. Great way to introduce Andrew & Danny to cruising. Your tour of the Grenadines was wonderful! Loved all the special snorkeling & swimming spots, lobster grills & delicious & beautiful food. Great place to sail & enjoy time with family. Thank you, Cathy & boys
26 January 2019 - Dauntless is a well appointed boat with all the bells and whistles!
Dear Jim & Judy, Thank you for a delightful week on Dauntless. Cruising the Grenadines was sublime. Jim's sailing prowress and seamanship was unparalleled. Judy's attention to detail and production of meal after meal in the galley was a marvel. We have been on many charters and this one had the best combination of blue water sailing, island hopping, snorkeling, hiking and relaxation of them all. Dauntless is a well appointed boat with all the bells and whistles. The highlight for us were in no particular order - snorkeling in Chatham Bay, lunch at Petit St Vincent, walking the Princess Margaret trail in Bequia, hiking to the church in Mayreau, and the ocean sailing. Best wishes to you and your family. We sincerely hope that our paths cross again. Fondly, Rahul & Elizabeth
6 February 2019 - We hope we can see you both again!
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing boat with us show us around these breathtaking islands! We hope we can see you both again and explore more waters together! Thank you! Gabriela & Nassim
16th Feb 2019 - Thank you so much
We've had an excellent few days with you on Dauntless. The Captain may have described some of the sailing conditions as robust, but we both loved every minute of it! We saw some breathtaking scenery, beautiful islands and stunning marine life. Thank you for all the sailing tips and the fantastic meals Chef Judy. We hope we can meet again! Thank you
Thank you!
Thank you for being such wonderful and thoughtful hosts. This vacation was exactly what my Dad and I were looking for and where do we begin?? The menu - fresh, gourmet, delicious. The tour captivating, informative, incredibly fun. The bar open, available, and fully stocked 😊 You had a little something for every mood, and we appreciated every moment. Truly a gift to have spent this time with you. Until we meet again! Nissa and Janusz
Thank you!
Thank you, Thank you! What wonderful hosts you have been and very accommodating. We really have appreciated your flexibility in letting us explore by mood. Thank you for sharing your boat, your knowledge, wonderful cuisine and friendliness. We will look for you in the VI! Until then we are now inspired to explore and enjoy the water near home. Thank you!
Top of the Line Experience
My wife and I just returned from a two week sail from Bequia to St Martin as crew with Jim & Judy Brown aboard their 52’ Jenneau. Our experience overall was top of the line. Jim and Judy are a well paired team with significant open ocean sailing and overall marine experience. Their crew management experience was one of clear and concise communication with an underlying confidence and expertise to provide a safe and enjoyable time for us. The quintessential experience of living on a sailboat with all it’s charms and few of its challenges was complete. Jim’s mastery of the many intricate systems needed on a boat in order to meet our “normal” expectations made the adventure very comfortable and relaxing. His diligent attention and monitoring of sea conditions, weather, navigation and schedule took away any concerns about safety and planning. His thoughtful consideration of everyone onboard was a win-win for all. What an amazing opportunity to explore the Caribbean Islands from the comfort of this beautiful boat. We can hop into towns without the chaos of island traffic and return to our peaceful haven to watch the sunset or gaze at the stars. Without a doubt, we recommend this boat and crew with 5 stars! John & Caroline Nininger
